All Wildwoods beaches are OPEN; bacteria levels normal
All beaches in the Wildwoods are open and none are under advisory by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello confirmed to Wildwood 365 this morning.
Several readers have written in with questions about the situation, after somewhat confusing media reports.
Earlier this week, 15 New Jersey beaches were closed and several were placed on advisory after water quality samples exceeded the recreational standard bacteria levels.
"There was one slightly elevated reading at 2nd and JFK on Tuesday morning," Rosenello explained. "By Tuesday afternoon, the second reading was normal.
"I don't know why the DEP still had North Wildwood listed as being on advisory as of [Wednesday] morning, but by the afternoon they had removed us from that list."
Temporarily high bacteria levels can sometimes be the result of storm runoff.
Each week, the DEP tests recreational water quality at approximately 180 ocean and 35 bay monitoring stations along the New Jersey coast.
