While walking around downtown Mexico City on Wednesday, I came across this little shop which specializes in marzipan ("mazapán" in Spanish). 

Marzipan is a confection made from sugar or honey and ground nuts.  (In Spain, almond meal is used, but in Latin America peanuts are more commonly used.)  Marzipan perhaps originated in Spain, and the ancient Spanish city of Toledo is famous for its marzipan.  Although this shop is called "Mazapanes Toledo", its goodies are made right here in the shop, not in Spain.  The store also sells "turrón" and other Spanish-style sweets and cookies.

My birthday was approaching, so I decided to indulge and buy a bag of treats.
