Stopped in my Tracks

On Wednesday after spending several hours in Mexico City's historic center, I was on my way to catch the Metrobus back to the apartment.  Then, near the National Lottery Building, I saw something that put my return home on temporary hold.  There was a small outdoor market set up on the sidewalk in honor of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples.  (I had never of this, but it was first proclaimed by the United Nations in 1994, and it has been observed every year since then on August 9th.)  There were a dozen or more stands selling foods and handicrafts from native towns on the outskirts of Mexico City.  If you have read much of my blog, you know that I am a sucker for handicrafts.  I had to stop and check it out, and I ended up buying a number of items.

This gentleman from Xochimilco was selling hand-made wooden toys.  I bought a couple things to give to Alejandro's nephew.

This lady from Milpa Alta had beautiful embroidered items for sale.

This stall had very pretty pottery also from Milpa Alta.  I bought a napkin holder for Alejandro's mother.

From there I managed to make it to the Metrobus stop without any further detours.
