While the island seems to have gotten through last night's storm relatively unscathed, at least one structure of note incurred significant damage.
The former and presently-unoccupied Wildwood Crest Library (6301 Ocean Avenue) had its north-facing wall blown out by high winds, which came in through the roof.
According to Wildwood Crest Historical Society President Kirk Hastings, a decision now has to be made whether to repair the building or tear it down. There has been talk of the historical society moving into this location, from its current base at Crest Pier Community Center.
Hastings noted that the overall structure appears to be in sound shape, though a thorough inspection awaits.
The building has been vacant for about three years. Its collections were moved to the new Wildwood Crest Library at 6300 Atlantic Avenue, which opened in August 2015.
