Gastronomical Delight
Nancy and Fred are constant readers of my blog, so they have read my frequent postings about our favorite restaurant "Angelpolitano". They were eager to eat there, and Fred wanted to try out what I consider the masterpiece of Mexican cuisine, "chiles en nogada" (something else that I have often written about here). Friday night Alejandro drove us to the restaurant battling horrendous Friday night traffic and a thunderstorm. Fortunately the rain stopped by the time we reached the restaurant.The owner / chef of the restaurant, Gerardo Quezadas, knows us from our many visits there. He greeted us when we arrived, and met Fred and Nancy.
Nancy ordered the chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese and covered in a fig "mole",
Fred ordered the "chile en nogada", the chile poblano stuffed with meat and fruit, covered with a creamy walnut sauce and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. The dish, as I have written before, is generally served in the months of August and September, and is traditional for Mexican Independence Day (September 16th). "Angelpolitano" is one of the few restaurants to serve it all year long... and is probably the best "chile en nogada" around.
Nancy and Fred understood the high praise that I have given this restaurant. Fred thought that the "chile en nogada" was incredible. I have a feeling that before their stay in Mexico City is over, they will want to make a return visit to "Angelopolitano"!
