South Jersey Gas to conduct natural gas renewal project in Wildwood Crest

WILDWOOD CREST – South Jersey Gas has recently informed the Borough of Wildwood Crest of plans to conduct a natural gas renewal project that will affect some streets in the borough beginning Monday, Oct. 29.

The work is scheduled to be complete by December.

According to a fact sheet about the project sent to the borough, South Jersey Gas will be installing excess flow valves (EFVs) on the natural gas lines. These excess flow valves are mechanical safety devices designed to automatically shut off the flow of natural gas in the event of a service line break or excavation damage.

Work is scheduled to take place along the following streets in Wildwood Crest: Pacific Avenue, Seaview Avenue, New Jersey Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, E. Nashville Avenue, E. Atlanta Avenue, E. Farragut Road, Ocean Avenue, E. Stanton Road, E. Stockton Road, E. Orchid Road and E. Heather Road.

According to South Jersey Gas, work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There is a possibility work may be performed on some Saturdays during the same times.

To ensure safety, there will be lane closures with traffic control personnel directing motorists and pedestrians around all work. South Jersey Gas has stated, however, that residents and businesses will have access to and from their properties at all times.

South Jersey Gas will need access to properties because this work will require a temporary shutdown of natural gas service. Every effort will be made to restore service as quickly as possible. According to South Jersey Gas, typically all work is completed within eight hours but times may vary. Individual gas meters may need to be replaced depending upon their location, age and condition.

According to South Jersey Gas, excavations will be required at the gas mains located in the street. South Jersey Gas may also need to dig on individual properties if necessary. In most cases, a temporary repair will be made until final restoration occurs.

Openings in concrete may be temporarily patched with asphalt until final restoration with concrete occurs. Openings made in grass may not be restored until there is warmer weather to facilitate grass growth.
