Vintage Day of the Dead
In the Mexico City's Alameda Park there is currently a photographic exhibit of black and white pictures from the 1950s and 60s showing the celebration of the Day of the Dead. Here are a few of those photos...
A man creating sugar skulls
A candlelight vigil in a cemetery
Visiting the graves of loved ones
Ofrendas
A sign at the beginning of the exhibit gives an interesting quote by the Nobel Prize winning poet Octavio Paz.
"For the inhabitant of Paris, New York or London, death is the word that is never pronounced because it burns the lips. The Mexican, on the other hand, visits it often, he makes fun of it, he caresses it, he sleeps with it, he celebrates it, it is one of his favorite toys and his most permanent love."
