In-season vehicle rates for travel aboard the Cape May-Lewes Ferry will be increasing by $1 as part of a "fare adjustment" going into effect on April 1.
The new structure was announced this week by the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA), which operates the ferry service.
Despite the general increase, some travelers will save under the new set-up.
Here's the breakdown:
- Fares for all vehicle classes will increase by $1 in-season (April through October). There is no increase in the return trip value fare. In-season rates for a standard vehicle plus a driver currently range from $39 to $47 for peak summer weekend and holiday travel.
- A new fare category will be created for three-wheel motorcycles and motorcycles with trailers.
- First responders (must present ID) will receive a "Blue & Red" discount of $2 off the adult passenger rate of $10, on a trial basis. (Military members already receive a $2 discount.)
- Children agest 6 to 13 will travel for free during the offseason months (November through March). The current offseason rate for kids is $4.
