Over 1,000 participants make this year's Fallen Heroes Plunge another big success!
An official total of 1,080 participants braved the elements and stormed into the frigid ocean for a great cause this past Saturday, at the 11th Annual Fallen Heroes Polar Bear Plunge!
According to Dennis Dool of North Wildwood Recreation & Tourism, the event raised an estimated $75,000 - proceeds which will benefit the Philadelphia Fallen Heroes Fund, MRSA Awareness and local scholarships.
Held every February, the Fallen Heroes Polar Plunge is dedicated to the memory of law enforcement heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Our unofficial observations at 11 a.m., the time of the plunge, had the air temperature at 39 degrees and the water temp at 40, with light wind. Conditions were cloudy, but fortunately, rain held off until later.
The event, held at 16th Street Beach, never fails to big crowds of costumed revelers.
(This year featured a special appearance by... Freddie Mercury and the Queen?!)
